- WIDESCREEN MARATHON 2 CLASSIC HUD - UNIVERSAL EDITION
- v2.02 by Trov
-
----------------------------------------------------------

This plugin allows you to experience Marathon 2's original 1995 classic status bar HUD,
but modified to better support today's widescreen displays. This plugin supports
Marathon 2, Marathon Infinity, and many scenarios, and even provides an M2-like HUD
for Marathon 1, complete with blinky light.

This widescreen HUD includes 2 flavors, a 'lite' version and an 'enhanced' version:

CLASSIC M2 (UNRESTRICTED VIEW)
This is the original HUD, using the original graphics, with the only alteration being
to disable the letterboxing on the 3D game view, allowing any widescreen aspect ratio.
Should be universally compatible with custom scenarios.

CLASSIC M2 (WIDESCREEN ENHANCED)
This extends the status bar graphics to fill a 16:9 screen. To utilize the extra space,
a second inventory page is displayed. In Netgames, this second page shows the scoreboard.
21:9 displays are also supported; the graphics are letterboxed but the 3D view fills the screen.
4:3 displays are supported as well if you want to have a smaller HUD.
Only supports the scenarios listed further in this readme.

- INSTALLATION
-
----------------------------------------------------------

It doesn't matter which game or scenario you want to use this with, installation method
is the same and uses the same plugins.

Extract the two folders "Classic M2 HUD - Unrestricted View" and "Classic M2 HUD - Widescreen Enhanced"
from this zip into the Plugins folder of your Marathon 1, Marathon 2, Infinity, custom scenario, or Aleph One install folder.

Launch the game, go to Preferences, Graphics, and change the HUD Plugin setting to select either
"Classic M2 (Unrestricted View)" or "Classic M2 (Widescreen Enhanced)" depending on which you want.

For the most 'Classic But Widescreen' view experience, I recommend the following other graphics settings:
Limit Vertical View: OFF
Override FOV: 96 (assuming a 16:9 monitor) 90 (assuming 16:10) 112 (for 21:9) or 132 (for 32:9 weirdos)
HUD Size: Largest

- MORE INFO / SCENARIO COMPATABILITY
-
----------------------------------------------------------

Due to the necessity of custom graphics, "Widescreen Enhanced" verrsion of the HUD is only guaranteed to work
with the following scenarios:

- Marathon 1, Marathon 2, and Marathon Infinity
- Any scenarios which use the default M2/MI HUD graphics, such as: Tempus Irae, Phoenix, EVIL, and many more
- The following scenarios with custom HUD graphics: Apotheosis, Apotheosis X, Excalibur: Morgana's Revenge,
Marathon Squadron, Portal of Sigma, RED, Return To Marathon, Rubicon/Rubicon X, Trojan

The same plugin folder will work automatically with all of the above listed scenarios.
For scenarios not in the above list, you may use the "Classic (Unrestricted View)" HUD.

If you wish to use the Enhanced Widescreen HUD in Software mode, I suggest using a custom game resolution of 960x540
to avoid scaling issues with the HUD. Also, set 'Terminal Scale' to 'Normal' for the same reason. Note that the skybox
will have some issues when looking all the way up and down; this is due to how Software mode works and I cannot avoid this.

All Lua work is based on "M2 Default HUD" plugin by Hopper, with additions
by Trov to support the enhanced widescreen features.

All graphics are made by Trov based on the assets included their original game/scenario.
